Many of us associate cold weather with relaxing in a warm, toasty house while watching our favorite movie or TV series. Achieving this, though, can be a bit of a challenge. Since we spend more time in our home during the winter months, it's easy to get a bit of cabin fever. This is why our real estate agents always recommend changing things up a bit and making your spaces as comfortable and cozy as possible. Here are some tips to help you do the same:

  • Find A New Rug
Nothing is less appealing than freezing cold floors. Consider adding a nice decorative rug if you have hardwood floors. Not only will it look nice and help keep your feet warm, but it will also provide some extra insulation. Go out and grab a nice fuzzy rug that matches the rest of your decor. You can roll it out just for the rest of the wintertime and store it in the attic or basement during warmer months.

  • Hang New Curtains
Adding some heavy, thick fabric curtains to any room can make things much cozier. Not only do decorative curtains add a sense of comfort to the living room, but they also help provide a bit of extra insulation and prevent cold air drafts from coming through the window, especially if they're lined on the back.

  • Use Your Fireplace
If your living room has a fireplace, it's time to fire it up. There is no better way to spend a winter evening than by watching a good movie with a fire crackling in the fireplace. If you don't have a fireplace, you might be interested in checking out some new Bronx homes for sale, or you can always light some nice smelling scented candles. Cinnamon or vanilla are some of our favorite winter fragrances.

  • Bring Out The Throw Blankets
Few things are as cozy as a soft throw blanket, and putting them on display can create a warm look in any room. Invest in some comfortable, decorative throw blankets and place them over the couch for easy access. You can also store them in a nice basket in the corner. Either way, be sure to select some that match the rest of your decor.

  • Install Warmer Lighting
The tone of your lighting can really impact just how cozy your living space feels. Try for warm, soft lighting instead of bright white. You can achieve this by simply swapping out some of your light bulbs or investing in a different lampshade.

  • Add A Bookshelf
Don't forget to top off your cozy room with a good book display. When it's cold out, curling up with a book can be so relaxing. If you want to create an instant cozy vibe in your living room, a new bookshelf or bookcase filled with your favorite literature is an easy way to do it.
