Buying a home should be exciting, not a chore. Here's how to get started with your home purchase.

Buying a home is a big decision. You have to know what you are getting into before you make a long-term commitment. People often think about buying a home when they start to have a family. A growing family needs more room. It's important to find a home that will allow your family to grow comfortably. Our real estate agents are available to help you with every step of the home-buying process. They can provide you with the information you will need to make the process go smoothly.

  • Start thinking about a down payment – One of the most important components of buying a home is the down payment. Depending on the type of mortgage you apply for, your down payment can be as little as 3% or as much as 20%. The more money you can put down, the less you will need to borrow.

  • Put together a budget – In order to determine how much house you can afford, you will need to create a budget. This may mean that you stop spending money on things you really don't need. Set aside what you think a monthly payment might be so you can get used to living within that budget. Creating a budget will allow you to see your debt-to-income ratio and identify ways you may be able to cut back on your spending.

  • Get pre-approved for a loan – Before you start looking for a home, go to your bank and get pre-approved for a loan amount you can afford. Take your budget with you. Your loan officer will be able to provide you with a few suggestions on how you can tighten your budget and streamline your payments.

  • Find the right agent – Finding the right agent is important. They will listen to your wants and needs and show you homes that meet all of your qualifications. A reputable agent will make sure you see all the Rockland County homes for sale that fall within your budget. A good agent will always be on the lookout for just the right property.

  • Do your research – Before you start hunting for houses, do your research on the neighborhoods you may want to move to. Learn about the schools and find out what the community has to offer. The right neighborhood will have everything you and your family will need to live comfortably.

  • Know where you want to live – Once you have researched a few neighborhoods, you will have a better idea of where you might want to live. You may decide to move closer to the edge of town or out in the country. Know where you want to be and start looking for the perfect house you want to call home.

When the time is right for you to buy a home, contact our agents. We know the area very well and will be able to help you find a home you love as well as afford. We make the home-buying process so easy that you will be in your new home before you know it.
