Whether you have a telescope, binoculars, or just your eyes, these are the best Rockland County locations to start stargazing.

Space has always been thought of as the final frontier. When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20th all those years ago, it brought space just a little closer. Many of us love watching the stars and looking at the different constellations that can be found throughout the night sky. Summer nights are a perfect opportunity to start stargazing and looking at the planets that seem to float above us. Our real estate agents know of many locations that are ideal for taking a telescope and exploring the heavens above us.

  • Rockland Astronomy Club – If you like astronomy and enjoy learning about space and all it contains, the Rockland Astronomy Club is something you should look into. The non-profit organization is committed to educating its members of all ages about the world beyond our solar system. Join the club and learn about new discoveries and how space is constantly changing. Observe the stars and take part in forums and fairs where you can spend time with others who enjoy space exploration and all the fun things that go along with it.

  • Rockland Lake State ParkRockland Lake State Park is full of wide open spaces where you have an unhindered view of the skies. Without the glare of the city lights, you can lose yourself in the endless sea of stars that move through the night skies. Located on Rockland Lake Road outside of Valley Cottage, New York, you can spend an entire day at the park. Arrive early, go swimming, and have a picnic. Spend quality time with your family and friends. Wrap up the day sitting by the water's edge, watching the stars and letting the troubles of the day fade away.

  • High Tor State ParkHigh Tor State Park is another gem that is ideal for stargazing. If you've been out looking at Rockland County homes for sale, stop in at the state park for an evening picnic and find a place to sit and wish upon a star or two. The area is secluded, and you are surrounded by nature at its finest. Sitting outside by the water and sharing your hopes and dreams for the future as you watch the stars and planets make their way across the sky. It just doesn't get any better than that.

  • Tallman Mountain State Park – At Tallman Mountain State Park, you can sit on the hillside and look up to see the beautiful expanse of stars. Look out over the Hudson River and the marshy areas. The starlit skies above and the shimmering water below is the perfect way to end your day. The state park has beautiful trails and recreational areas where you can spend the entire day outside. As the day fades and the skies darken, sit back and watch the stars fill the skies.

Bergen County is well-known for its recreational areas and wide open spaces. If you like to watch the stars and explore the universe, you have many public areas where you can set up your telescope. Spend a few hours and watch how the stars move through the sky. Take the family and introduce the kids to all the constellations in the night sky. It's a lot of fun and educational too!
