Gethsemane Cemetery was founded in 1860 as a one-acre site that served as a burial grounds for African-Americans. Around 50 stone markers and 27 inscribed headstones are visible, but records indicate about 500 people were buried there over the years. Unfortunately, many remain unidentified below the surface, and some headstones have been lost.

The Women's Federation Monument is a castle-shaped reminder of the successful efforts of the Englewood Women's Clubs and the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs to preserve the Palisades. It's located in Palisades Interstate Park near Alpine homes for sale. In the 1890s, several companies began blasting the Palisades Cliffs to get broken stone to use for railroad beds and concrete. Despite efforts to stop the work, the blasting continued. Finally, in 1900, the women's clubs convinced Gov. Foster Voorhees of New Jersey and Gov. Theodore Roosevelt of New York to pass legislation for an Interstate Commission to buy and protect the quarries.
