When you're out exploring nature, the power and beauty of waterfalls create an appealing destination. Each one located around Rockland County is in a unique setting that's worth exploring, so our real estate agents recommend taking a fall hike in the following spots this fall to get some fabulous waterfall views.

Kennedy Dells County Park

Address: 355 N. Main St., New City, NY 10956  

You'll find tiking easy in Kennedy Dells County Park, located not far from New City homes for sale. The paths are nearly level and traverse 2.3 miles in a loop, so the topography and length are ideal for a relaxing day out in nature. Along the way, you'll see arch bridge ruins and a 19th-century pumping station. After about 20 minutes, steps and rocks will lead you down to a relatively short waterfall.

Kakiat County Park

Address: 592 Haverstraw Road, Suffern, NY 10901  

Located adjacent to Harriman State Park near Suffern homes for sale, Kakiat County Park boasts 376 acres of diverse topography, containing areas of:

  • Flat wetlands
  • Rolling hills
  • Steep mountainside

As you hike, you'll see beautiful trees, including poplars, white pines, and maples, and may spot some of the park's abundant wildlife, such as white-tailed deer and red foxes. You'll find several small cascading waterfalls, but you'll need to pick the right time to see them. They're barely a trickle in the dry summer months, but after a rain, they grow and create some good photo ops.

Buttermilk Falls

Address: 199 S. Greenbush Road, West Nyack, NY 10994

When you think of West Nyack, the four-level Palisades Centerone of the country's largest malls—may be one of the first things that comes to mind. But the town is also home to Buttermilk Falls, which is less than a mile away from the mall and near West Nyack homes for sale. This oasis is a 75-acre park that has a one-mile hiking trail, amazing views, and a beautiful 15-foot waterfall. It cascades down into a stream that leads to the Hackensack River. 

Bear Mountain State Park

Address: 3006 Seven Lakes Drive, Tomkins Cove, NY 10986

The park also has a swimming pool and a merry-go-round that has hand-painted scenes of the park as well as 42 hand-carved seats of animals native to the park, including black bear, deer, and bobcats.

Eleanor Burlingham Memorial Park

Address: 25 Municipal Plaza, Sloatsburg, NY 10974  

Located close to Sloatsburg homes for sale, Eleanor Burlingham Memorial Park is a heavily wooded low-lying floodplain. It's a popular destination for fishing in the Ramapo River as well as canoeing, bird watching, and biking. In fact, the Ramapo is one of the few canoeable rivers in the area. The park's natural environment makes it a peaceful retreat, and it has a small waterfall that's also a point of interest.
