The tradition of wearing new clothes for Easter symbolizes the spiritual renewal that accompanies the holiday. Songwriter Irving Berlin popularized the crowning touch of Easter bonnets in his song "Easter Parade," most famously performed by Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in the 1948 movie of the same name.
